Redrafting the 2017 Rookie Draft Class in a Half-PPR Dynasty League

The 2017 draft class was hyped up as a group with potential stars who could make an immediate impact. In my opinion, they exceeded the hype. This class blessed us with elite stars, weekly starters, hot new QBs and TE’s.  I went through the top-36 Rookies from 2017-2018 and re-ranked them for a half-PPR, 1-QB dynasty league.  Assuming that my rankings fell into a draft order, this is how it would shape up:

The 1st round

1.01 Christian McCaffrey

1.02 Juju Smith-Schuster

1.03 Alvin Kamara

1.04 Joe Mixon

1.05 Leonard Fournette

1.06 Dalvin Cook

1.07 Kenny Golladay

1.08 James Conner

1.09 Aaron Jones

1.10 George Kittle

1.11 Patrick Mahomes

1.12 Marlon Mack

Somehow, you might be disappointed with Fournette if you took him at 1.01.  The first three picks on my list are McCaffrey, Juju and Kamara.  They could easily be the first three picks in a start-up draft, period.  I would say that Mixon, Fournette and Dalvin Cook would all be better assets to own than a 2019 1.01 in Rookie Drafts. So we’re off to a great start… The player who has had the biggest boost since 2017 is Kittle.  He was one of the last tight ends to be taken in 2017 Rookie Drafts and now he is considered a top 3 overall asset at his position.   It also should be noted that Patrick-f’ing-Mahomes was in this draft.  I would take him at 1.11 over Marlon Mack.  I believe he was a 3rd rounder in 2017.

The 2nd round

 2.01 Mike Williams

2.02 Tarik Cohen

2.03 Cooper Kupp

2.04 Corey Davis

2.05 Chris Godwin

2.06 Evan Engram

2.07 OJ Howard

2.08 Kareem Hunt

2.09 David Njoku

2.10 DeShaun Watson

2.11 Chris Carson

2.12 Dede Westbrook

Obviously, drafts didn’t look like this at all in 2017.  The 2nd round here includes a lot of guys who were 1st rounders back then.  While there are so many stars in this class, this is a reminder that things can change very quickly.  Kareem Hunt would be a top 3 pick if it weren’t for his off-field issues.  Corey Davis was even the 1.01 in some rookie drafts, I’m sure.  His value has plummeted since then due to a putrid offense.  Despite what I just said, you could acquire a 2019 1st for all of these guys.  Tarik Cohen is one of my favorite dynasty assets that I own.  I don’t see myself trading him away  for a 2019 1st.  I couldn’t believe that he isn’t even a top 12 asset.

The 3rd Round

3.01 Austin Ekeler

3.02 Curtis Samuel

3.03 Matt Breida

3.04 Zay Jones

3.05 Mitchell Trubisky

3.06 Keelan Cole

3.07 John Ross

3.08 Jamaal Williams

3.09 D’Onta Foreman

3.10 Josh Reynolds

3.11 Taywan Taylor

3.12 Elijah McGuire
